Cooinda Ceramics Company Profile With over 20 years experience in the ceramics industry John Curtis founded his own company in 1969. He established the company in Bayswater, then an outer suburb in the green belt of Melbourne, Victoria, and quickly established the company's reputation for quality and customer service. Proudly Australian, he adopted the company name, Cooinda, from an Aboriginal word meaning "Happy Place" and incorporated a boomerang into the company's logo. The company and the Bayswater area both grew rapidly over the ensuing years. Bayswater is now a major light industrial suburb of Melbourne and Cooinda has established itself as a market leader in ceramic manufacture and innovation. Cooinda remains a privately owned company with the current Managing Director, Mark Curtis, overseeing further expansion of the company's manufacturing facilities and customer base. In 1997 Cooinda took over Nilsen Porcelain to become Australia's largest wet processing operation of industrial ceramics. With extensive extrusion, casting and glazing facilities together with its wet pressing capability, Cooinda is Australia's foremost manufacturer of industrial ceramic products. The management and staff of Cooinda Ceramics remain committed to John Curtis' founding principles of quality and service to our customers.
